Costs:
The first two introductory lessons of any class are free.
If paying monthly, in advance and by direct debit, a payment of £30/student is due at the beginning of each calendar month and the annual membership fee is included. This payment scheme includes attendance to any or all of our adult classes.
If paying per class attended then an annual membership of £40 is due at the beginning of each annual renewal period in addition to a charge of £10/lesson, which is applicable to all of our classes.
All dues are payable directly into the school account. The administration reserves the right to adjust annual subscription and lesson costs at a month’s notice.
Age Group:
Junior classes are for students aged between 8 and 12 years.
Adult classes are for students aged from 13 to 70+years onward.
We currently have a Junior class running at Broadwell. Junior classes can be arranged on request. At present the current training times accommodate the adult classes only. Junior classes would run the hour before the adult class so between 6pm and 7pm unless otherwise stated, and potentially at all the venues listed above. Please contact us for further details.
We are happy to accommodate physically impared or disabled students but reserve the right to refuse anyone, both impared or otherwise, who is unable to progress or whose limitations are such that teaching is impractical or impossible.
Clothing:
For training we recommend either a t-shirt, polo shirt or a short-sleeved rugby shirt and a pair of comfortably fitting training/jogging pants/bottoms/leggings/trousers/whatever you want to call them, and non-marking trainers, or similar footware, appropriate for athletic activity.
Equipment:
For the initial lessons all equipment necessary will be provided.
Within a reasonable period (a few months) following full membership it is requested that you purchase a suitable training weapon (modified shinai, available from the school at around £50).
When your experience improves (12 months or so) you will need a fencing mask (a student mask costs somewhere in the region of £100 from Leon Paul) and possibly gloves (we have discovered that paint ball gloves are rather good and cost around £15/pair). There is the potential to upgrade to a socketed shinai (available through the school at a cost of £450 as there's quite a lot of work involved in making them) .
When you have decided to fully commit to HEMA you may want to purchase a steel practice sword (from £700), advice about which can be obtained through the school.
